Running Injury

Post by DudleyBoy »

Does anyone know of any ways to recover from tendonitis in the hip quickly?

I have been suffering for about a year now and thought that I had it under control until it flared up again today.

Thanks in advance

You can eat anti-inflammatory foods, like Omega-6 Fats sources, then things like Peas, Lettuce, Peppers, Apples and Onions, for the Quercetin content, or Pineapple for the Bromelain content, otherwise you can get those two things supplementally, as you can with Omega-6 as well.

Ultimately it will depend on the Tendon(s), involved, as it sounds like it's either the Inferior Gamellus, Superior Gamellus, Piriformis or Obturator Sternum Tendon(s), but it could also be the Illiacus or Psoas Major / Minor Tendon(s).

Were you to be able to have some kind of Physiotherapy on the area(s) in question, it would depend on where the inflammation was as to what could be possible.

Inflammatory problems might be sorted out with the RICE method.

Rest

Ice, (3-4 times a day or 15 minutes).

Compression

Elevation

They can also be corrected potentially with Cortisone or NSAIDS like Ibuprofen, Ketoprofen etc.

Perhaps these things may be of consideration.

If your're a road runner and you stay on the same side of the road everytime you run your're probably dropping one hip lower than the other, just because most roads slope for water run-off. Try finding the flattest smoothest paths you can find and align those hips. Also consider a good core workout , the abs and back play a huge roll in running. Good luck.

If you are finding a problem at your hip, dont try to run too fast instead do jogging. And, go for plain surface jogging rather than running on up-hills or down the slope..
Thanks..All the best!!! :)

Hey Bossman,

I'm pretty sure you mean to be giving advice to be eating Omega-3 source foods. Omega-6's actually promote inflamation, Omega-3's suppress it.

Yes I did mean Omega-3's :).

However Omega 6's are EFA's none the less. The body can produce Omega 9's like Oleic, Nervonic and Erucic Acid, but not 6 or 3.

Also Omega 6 breaks down into something called Arachidonic Acid for one thing, which does have effects on inflammation, but only over-promotes inflammatory responses when consumed too much, as far as I'm aware.

Inflammation can be a good thing, as it alerts the brain that something is wrong, I.E. blunt trauma, Burns etc.
