5 a day????

5 A Day WILL give you more control over your weight. A general rule to follow is to eat the recommended 5-9 servings of fruit and veggies per day. Fruit and vegetables displace fat in your diet so you are less likely to overeat.

By eating the recommended amount you will feel more satisfied from the volume of food, so you are less likely to snack on high calorie foods.

To make this easier for yourself try these tips:

Give yourself visible reminders, ie; fruit baskets.
Add fruit to your breakfast, chop it into your cereal.
Snack on dried fruits, include fruits in your lunch.
Keep bags of pre-washed greens in the fridge.
Have canned/frozen vegetables ready to easily add to meals.
Have a glass of fresh pure fruit juice for breakfast.
Include a side salad with your lunch.
Make desert a portion of fruit.
Snack on dried fruits, instead of high calorie foods.


So remember, for a healthier, balanced diet, and to be more in control of your weight be sure to consume 5 to 9 fruits or vegetable portions per day!

dried fruits are high calorie foods. I'm not saying you can't have them in moderation but don't mistake them for being low cal just because they're fruit. They are very calorie dense and it's all sugars so snack on them, but snack with restraint...use the same guidelines you would for nuts, a handful is enough for a snack.

Dried Fruits are also high GI. Dates rank about 105 which is higher than Glucose, the carbohydrate by which GI ratings are based.
