I'm thin but how do I make waist smaller?

Post by michelle21689 »

I'm 22 years old and I'm 5'3 weighing in at 118 lbs. I try to watch what I eat by eliminating junk food, fried food, sweets, and fast food. I try to cook myself so I know what goes into meals and because I can add a variety of vegetables, fruits, or anything that I think would be healthier. I eat lean meat like turkey, chicken breast, extra lean beef and whole grains.

I think I'm pretty thin and I actually like weight but I can't get waist to shrink at all! measurements are 34B-27-38 and I would like to lose an inch or two off waist. What do I have to do to shrink waist? Do I have to lose more weight? I'm fine with body except lower abs and waist/love handles...I wanted it have more of a defined curve! Some people tell me it's impossible to have a thinner waist because this is how body is structured.

Please be honest...I have a bit of love handles that need to be toned right? Someone please tell me how I can get rid of them and how to have toned lower abs. I run a mile and I do weight training. I don't want to lose too much weight. I think maybe I have to lose some fat to have abs more defined...5 lbs?

Here is a picture of me

I want waist to be thinner to look more curvy!!!

I want toned love handles, thinner waist, and toned lower abs with the V cut lol

I'm not 100% sure if this would work, but I would say work your legs and bum a bit, and also work your lats a tiny bit. You're a girl so you don't have to worry about getting bulky; you're body doesn't have enough test to grow muscle like men do. For a lot of people its hard to have that figure, from you're picture, you look great, if you want to see more results possibly go on a low carb diet or just watch you're carbs on days off. Eating properly will help you achieve most of your goals, of course if you put the work in, its basically all trail and error. Try out a few exercises and see what you make from it. Another thing, just simply ask a PT at you're gym.

Try out some simply squats, it helps a lot with you're core as well, if you have proper form so make sure thats perfected first.
Lat pull downs.. some ab work to, lower and top. If you work you're obliques it tends to take away from that curvy look.

Lol I hope this can help a bit!

Good luck :)

There's no such thing as spot reduction. But you may achieve a more toned look by toning the abs, especially the internal obliques; this may bring in your waist to give it a little more curve and give your abs an overall toned and flatter appearance. You are genetically curved to begin with, so it will give just a bit more hourglass shape to you. Your bust measurement is 4" smaller than your hips, so you will never achieve the "classic" hourglass ratios, but you can definitately tone the abs and achieve a better look.

You want exercises which hit the internal obliques, as well as the rectus and transverse muscles. If you don't know where these muscles are located, google them--it's important you know so as you exercise, you feel for the tension in the muscles. Its important to feel for the tention in the muscle as you exercise--too often, people use momentum, rather than muscle to perform abdominal exercises. Don't waste your time on weighted side bends--they hit more the back than the oblique.

Try bicycle crunch; hanging crunch; hanging leg lifts; Russian twist with weight (I use a 10 lb plate); oblique crunch; cross crunch; decline bench sit ups with weight (I use a 25 lb plate, but 10 lb is fine--no weight to start if you normally don't do these); reverse crunch on decline bench; side planks. When doing oblique exercises, body weight or low weight (10 lb plate) is good. Women don't build muscle mass easily; plus, ab muscles are very small and very difficult to bulk up, yet some people still insist weights will put on mass--unless you use excessive weight, eat super high calories like a body builder, and work those muscles with the intensity of a competition bodybuilder, you won't put on muscle mass, you will only tone.

I push a lot of weight in other areas (e.g. leg press 270) and I don't have mass, just real nice muscle tone. Besides being a woman, I'm a runner, and runners don't want mass.

I remember someone telling me once they found a way to spot reduce on the Arms doing a giant set coupled with some cardio.

Someone else here some time back said spot reduction is possible in a hormonal way, not necessarily from any specific diet or exercise tweak(s), but in general terms spot reduction is very difficult, but I wouldn't rule it out as a definite no-no, though it's more than likely no possible.

With Runners though, mass is obviously not a massive benefit, but interms of longer life it can be, because of the improvements to bone density that strength training can achieve, plus the strengthening of connective tissues and the stronger the bones the more tolerance to impact they can take as well.

Plus the added muscle is good for older age and strengthening around an area like the knee joints could help to prevent issues like Patellofemoral Syndrome, by providing a bit more added support for the Knee joint area, as running can be linked to degredation of knees and issues in later life.

Runners might be advised to consider supplements that are cartilage healthy, like Cartazyne DS or Hyaluronic Acid; supplements that I believe are meant to target the health of cartilage rather than primarily the joint itself.

Do some exercise that can focus more on slimming your waist. Avoid drinking alcoholic drinks and beer as well.
