Is sleeping contributes to weight loss?

Post by jemimah »

There is some information available that tells that sleeping affects weight loss. Is there any valid reason which can prove that bad sleeping habits can lead to gain weight?

Not sleeping enough throws off the circadian rhythm and has been shown in studies to lead to weight gain. If you want to lose weight you need at least 7 hours per night. During delta sleep (about an hour after falling asleep) the body releases growth hormone which aids in healing, recovery and rebuilding. Sleep also reduces stress.

This.

In addition to the positive effect adequate sleep has on your hormones, consider this:

Sleep 4 hours / awake 20
Sleep 8 hours / awake 16

You have more opportunities to eat. And when you are sleep deprived and stressed (likely have higher cortisol levels) you are more likely to overeat/eat more often.
