Hi all.
I have a simple (yet complex) question.
The other day I went to the gym and I could lift lets say 100kg on bench press. I was in no way rested, neither did I eat enough.
Today I went to the gym and I couldn't lift 100kg although I slept for more than 10 hours per day for 2 days in a row and I ate a lot of carbs.
question is what else (besides rest and proper nutrition) affects your performance in weight lifting?
Thanks for replies.

Re: what influences performance besides sleep and proper die
The same thing happens to me sometimes. This morning I didn't fall asleep until after 3AM and got up at 7:30AM for school, and I was completely awake the whole day. There are days I've gone to bed at midnight and gotten up at 7:30 and I would be sleepy all day in school.

What about stress?? Any difference in your stress levels on either one of these days? How many carbs and what kind of carbs are you having on your high carb day?
Re: what influences performance besides sleep and proper die
Stress level is the same. I'm happy to say that life has no stress or very little stress
For carbs I usually eat white rice or potato (side dish to lunch). I usually eat pizza as well. I sometimes use maltodextrin before training.
Do carbs really affect performance?

Re: what influences performance besides sleep and proper die
Yesterday I was able to lift 100kg 4 times in a row which is quite outstanding for me. I didn't eat a lot, but I was well rested... Still, I am not sure what influences performance. Can the mood be a factor??
Re: what influences performance besides sleep and proper die
Mood could be factor, because if you're totally focused on the lift, you might nail it a bit more easily, especially if you're not allowing distractions to put you off.

Another key thing that can affect your performance is your mindset. If you go into the lift feeling powerful and confident you'll have better results than if you approach the bar with trepidation. Take a moment before your lift and remember a time you nailed a lift, remember how powerful you felt, let the feeling fill you completely, then visualize yourself successfully completing the lift and go do it!jbob wrote: The other day I went to the gym and I could lift lets say 100kg on bench press. No stress? NICE!! I consume carbs (for energy) before lifting, but if I go overboard then it can make me lethargic.
