In a word yes, but don't be reliant on them as a primary source of nutrition. Use them to balance out your daily intake.

Smoothies are great, but don't be fooled, many smoothies can pack a lot of calories. If you are going to move to a smoothie diet, you often will need to take supplements to ensure you are getting the proper nutrients that your body needs each day.

Supplements should not be necessary, if the individual is including smoothies as part of a more broad spectrum approach to eating. However supplements may be necessary if smoothies become the sole focus of someones diet, not least as there would be little protein or fatty acid content from a totally smoothie based diet, owing to many fruits and vegetables having low or no amounts of those things essential amino acids and omega 3's and 6's a vital for survival, as the body cannot produce such things.
