Seeds and Diet

Post by Diane007 »

Hello I am brand new here and would love to hear from other people who have the same problem that I have. Over 13 years ago I was diagnosed as having divoticulitus (spelling?) I cannot eat any type of seeds and/or nuts. This means NO tomatoes, cucumbers, kiwi fruit, raspberries, strawberries...well you get drift. I painstakingly deseed tomatoes and cucumbers but this only happens at home. I have to prep food very carefully. The recipes I have come across contain some type of seed and/or nuts and I would appreciate more recipes and/or ideas regarding eating healthy without the seeds and/or nuts. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi, Diane,

This doesn't really address your question so I apologize for that, but I'm wondering if you've discussed your diet with your doctor lately, or whether you get flare-ups when you accidentally eat nuts or seeds? I'm asking because elderly aunt's doctor mentioned to me about a year ago that the recommendations have changed on diverticular disease, and most people who eat a high fiber diet can eat nuts and seeds without problems once they have healed from a bout of divericulitis.

Hi Diane, good to talk to you.

When you say nuts and seeds, I presume that also includes stone fruits, like avocado and plums.

I say this as in general foods with a stone in them count as fruits, as the stone is classed as some kind of seed.
