i am planning to lose 10kgs(22 pounds) in 4 months...
is it too much?? i mean should increase the span of time...


another problem i have is that i quit routine a few days after working out and it takes a few days for me to get back on schedule.....how can i mentally motivate myself and keep myself on schedule??

You can, with good results lose 5-10 pounds a month if you do it right, but that is kind of up for interpretation, and your commitment.

Some people will just start hitting up cardio and try to start eating healthy, and will see some results for like 6 weeks, and then they hit the wall, and I think that is what you are talking about. But it sounds like you go into the gym and kill yourself right off the bat, get sore muscles and BHAM!! fatigue and laziness takes over because you see that there are huge obstacles.

Losing weight shouldn't be a goal, a lifestyle change should be your goal - a damn commitment to yourself. Stop letting that weak side of yourself say "You aren't going to do this!", "If I start, I'll just end up quiting" Get your mind right!!! Ask yourself this, "What are you going to do after you lose that 22 lbs?" If you don't know, well you already set yourself up to fail, PERIOD!

You quit because you don't have a plan for when you work out and for when and what you eat. That should be your first thing to research. Look at some of the forum entries like "Read before posting", or find a way to talk with Swans on here.

Not necessarily, as excess water can store, potentially if the Kidneys can't process it properly, and then you can get Edema.

Drinking more Water is a good idea, at least 8 glasses a day, is not necessarily necessary, you could do 2-4 a day, bearing in mind much healthy food has water in it anyway, and it is technically possible to get daily Water requirements from food alone, but generally about 2-4 glasses a day should be fine, and 8 is okay, providing the individual can handle it, without getting a water storage issue like Edema.

Fair comment, and I agree, Edema is a fluid retention in the Legs, but should it happen, one possible way to relieve it, short of using Diuretics or reducing Sodium content, is actually to cut water consumption back, as there is generally in such cases, a possible link between the Water consumption and the Edema, logic stating that water cutting wouldn't need to be a possible way to relive Edema, were it never causal.

The lack of water could possibly cause it, if it contributed to lack of Sodium flushing, though Edema is generally considered to be linked to other things like Kidney dysfunction or excessive Salt intake, Edema can sometiems be caused by water intake, and in understanding possibly too much, if the Kidneys cannot process it properly.

It's like anything the human Organs are required to do, if you put too much of anything in there, whether it's liquid based, Fat based, Carbohydrate, Protein, Vitamin or Mineral content, the organ(s) in question will react negatively, because human Organs can only tolerat so much of anything beneficial, before their tolerance levels or abilty to cope are reached, forcing a possible problem, where excess of something is concerned.

I appreciate your response, as ever it made for good reading, and I take on board what you think. Your point of view initially was well expressed, so I won't disagree with what you say, just politely hold own views on it :).

ok ... can we forget water for sometime ???

i need some tips on "mental motivation" and some advice on sticking to diet plans ...
i tend to follow them for a week or so and then slowly temptation sets in ... along with laziness

seriously though, you can put your "fat" pictures all over your house and serve as a reminder. like bathroom mirrors and your fridge.

ok another ques.....

1) top 10 foods that MUST be avoided for weight loss

2) top 10 foods necessary to add to diet plan for weight loss

3) is it ok if i indulge in something(tht is supposed to be avoided) once in 2 weeks or something??

avoid all foods that end in "would you like fries with that sir"

eat all lean meats,beef,chicken,fish etc and eat your veggies.

i dont see a problem in the ocassional cheat meal.

Hi there Cyrax_101,

As for giving in to temptation... that is probably going to be the most difficult chore in your journey towards a healthier lifestyle. The answer is to simply just say no. We all face tempations EVERY DAY and in order to succeed you must learn to be strong and resist tempations. I think the temptations are strongest in the first several weeks of starting a new workout regimen and eating plan. I can assure you it does all get easier with time. During the first several weeks, you'll most likely still be craving junk food (be it sugar or grease) as your body is used to functioning on that kind of food. You need to train your body to expect protein, veggies, fruits and whole grains instead of sugar, sweets, and greasy foods.
As for working out... don't even give yourself an option not to go. NO EXCUSES! The only time I miss a workout is when I absolutely can't fit in a workout or when I'm death bed with illness. This means that on average I typically miss maybe 2 workouts a year.

I think you need to ask yourself how badly you really want to lose that 22 pounds. If you want it bad enough, you WILL succeed. You need to realize though that this will be a challenge, it will not come easy. You'll have to fight temptation and you'll have to push yourself outside of your comfort level. As for the laziness.... If you want this bad enough you'll learn not to be lazy.

avoid - potatoes, corn, peas, low fat foods, low carb foods, cakes, cookies, crisps, soda, pastries

include - veggies, fruits, solid protein, omega 3 healthy fats, nuts, high fibre cerial, water, wts, sleep, manage stress...ok the last 3 weren't foods

the further you are from your goal, the less likely it is that you should chest...i think going the first month without a cheat at all is the best way to prove to yourself that you can go without it...it's the same as qutting smoking, cold turkey is the best way
