New Challenges

Post by S8P0R1T0 »

I hit a plateau and can't get out!

Let me start by giving routine. (short version)

M-W-F: GYM

Total body workout, no isolations; deadlifts, chest presses, rows, tons of pull/chin ups and dips, etc.. After a set, I try to work out an opposing muscle. ie: If I am doing bench press, in between sets I will do bent over rows, take a 60 sec. rest and back to press. 15 minutes steady cardio at end of workout.
-I also do different sets of compound dumbbell exercises

T-T-S: HOME

Either 4 min. rounds on a heavy bag followed by 30 min. HIIT on treadmill. (9mph for 60 sec. then 4 for 30 sec.) Or light weight random muscles with dumbells or home gym, followed by HIIT.

It has been working great for me for a few months, and I look and feel fantastic. I know I need to shock muscles and change up the workout, but I feel like I'm doing the most intense exercises I can. I am happy with the way I look, I just want to keep pushing body. Are plyometrics worth it? Anyone know anything about kettlebell workouts? Any suggestions appreciated.

FYI - These forums helped me achieve goals and set new ones. Thanks to all the experts and the time they put in to responding to these topics.

1 - if you're happy with your body then maybe go for strength i.e. lower reps (3 - 6) on the bog lifts

2 - plyometrics? worth what? i think you need an actual goal

3 - KB workouts are much like any others...do you KB's?

Hey-I am feeling the same way lately.

I have hit a plateau myself. I don't want to lose or gain anymore weight. I feel great and body is where I wanted it but I am bored!

I know it sounds crazy! But when you go from working out so hard to get to a goal. You reach the goal and do your best to maintain, well personality does not do well with just maintaining. I always like to push myself no matter what I am doing.

I love weight training but feel like I am stuck in a rut right now.

choose another goal:

- choose to bring up a specific bodypart
- choose to increase a particular lift
- choose a performance goal (jump higher etc)
etc

I don't Kb yet, but i have seen a some workouts online, and it looks interesting. I'm just not sure yet how to start or what form is proper; so i have been hesitant. I might just start out light and see what i can handle. Since i posted the topic, I have started plyometrics, and am really enjoying it. I am incorporating it in circuit training with a heavy bag and cable workouts. I think what I am really looking for is some unconventional training methods. I have surpassed goals with the workouts I am doing now and am increasing in weight. I want to add in some more difficult workouts that I will have trouble getting through. Many thanks everyone.

Swanso: I have trouble doing shoulder presses (i get a sharp pain when i lift). Any good shoulder workouts that don't involve over the head presses? I think right now, that is the body part i am least satisfied with.

sounds like an impingment, the shoulder pain...unfortunately there aren't any other worthwhile shoulder strength exercises except for overhead press variations...

unconventional training methods often follow no prinicples, have no progression and don't provide any benefits

nothing trumps hard work buddy

I looked it up and it seems a good possibility that it is an impingement. Thanks for the info. I'll just keep up with the workouts. I'm going to start Kbs this or next week. I'll post and let you know how it works out. thx again :D

if it is or even feels like it then you won;t want to be putting arms over your head or any bb bench/shoulder pressing or you'll make it worse and as soon as that bwears away your rotator cuffs, you're gone
