Exercise Bikes??? Need Advice
I am considering about getting a stationed bike for room... for times when i am watching tv so i can bike instead of laying/sitting on bed... i need advice on which type of bike to buy...What is the difference between a RECUMBENT BIKE or a UPRIGHT BIKE? i know the upright has u sitting high and rebumbent has u sitting lower but is there anything else as to the results it will do for legs??
Re: Exercise Bikes??? Need Advice
Recumbent might be better if you have slight back issues. Saddle based ones are probably better for more intensity based work.
In terms of output, forget the monitors, as electronic readings are unproven and what you weigh and calories you burn, depend on what you consume before workouts, fat / muscle / water ratio, in relation to what can be burned and how quickly, the time of day you use an EB, weight change day to day, not just throughout the day, etc etc.
Saddle based ones, usually can come in fold away varieties, recumbent ones I don't think do, unless you can by ones with a detachable seat. I'm not certain of that.

If you already have a bicycle you can get a wind machine stand to use with that bike. It is very cost effective and the workouts are good. But only do this if your bike is comfortable for you.
I have one at home that I don't use anymore. I might be open to selling it. I will post some information on it in the next day or so.

I think you already do enough cardio by going jogging.. try some weights!

I subscribe to the notion that the amount of time you train should equal the amount of time that you sleep. Cardio will burn through more minutes than lifting will...this is especially important if you plan on sleeping more than 6 hours.

Re: Exercise Bikes??? Need Advice
The amount of time you train, should be equal to the amount of time you sleep. So you're saying anyone who sleeps for 8 hours, should also train for 8 hours a day, or am I just not reading between the lines?
Re: Exercise Bikes??? Need Advice
That is exactly correct.Boss Man wrote:The amount of time you train, should be equal to the amount of time you sleep. So you're saying anyone who sleeps for 8 hours, should also train for 8 hours a day, or am I just not reading between the lines?
Lately I've not been able to fall asleep (age?). So to aid in that department I've been training longer. I'm now training for about 3-1/4 hours per night and I am managing to get about 4 - 5 hours sleep. At some point in the near future training and sleep will be equal.
When I get to 8/8 hours I will let you know.

I train long and SLOW with the TV running. A few years back this would be a 2-1/2 hour workout.Nokie173 wrote:Packard wrote:....I'm now training for about 3-1/4 hours per night and I am managing to get about 4 - 5 hours sleep. Long workouts give you a mental toughness that shorter ones cannot. I've always had at least one very long workout per week for just that reason. That way if they send me to Guantanamo I will be able to withstand the harshest of interrogations

favorite long workouts from years gone by was a 6 hour bike ride then wind sprints at the high school track, then off to the gym for a lifting session. Ahh, that was heaven.

F and Su???
(Fat and sunburned? Hmmm. Freckled and sulking? Forlorn and suffering?)
Re: Exercise Bikes??? Need Advice
Ah!! I'm an old timer and I still write "Fri. and Sun." when I'm abbreviating. I guess this is texting format stuff. Of course we are not limited in these fora like a text message would be, so it is OK to write "or weekends I don't know".Lesplease wrote:Friday and Sunday or w/e idk.

Ah, thuRsday! And I was betting on "Rotund...".Lesplease wrote:thuRsday

Personally I rarely get sleep problems, and training never goes above 1:30 max.
Though I think your attempts to find a training / sleep equilibrium a tad absurd, I can't nay won't outright condemn it as a work of foolishness
.
I wouldn't personally do it though.

It seems fairly absurd to me too, but it beats staring at the ceiling for hours on end while trying to fall asleep. If I wear myself out enough I fall asleep fairly quickly. Or maybe I should try drugs...Boss Man wrote:Personally I rarely get sleep problems, and training never goes above 1:30 max.
