Well i am 41 working for myself as a IT consultant so stress is very high . The hours i work is also very long as one tend to work more than if you would have working for a boss . I smoke and seldom do excersize . All that is now changing as son (the youngest of 3 kids ) wanted to do martial arts , i enrolled all three kids and myself to do martial arts ( 2X a week 1.5 h a session)and have been training for a month and a half now , i also started doing cardio at the local gym ( 3 days a week ) i have lost 10 kg in a month and a half going down from 115 kg to 105kg . goal is to drop down to 90 kg and then from there build muscle mass to 98 kg . fat % went from 29 % to 25.8 % i intend to drop that to 15 % . But when i went for a fitness test last week i realized with a shock that BP is bloody sky high !! 160/100 . This really put me into a depressive state . But i am going to manage , seeing the cardio on monday to work out a plan if need be go onto meds to manage it but if i do go on meds goal will be to get body back into shape so that i can go off it , i hate taking pills . I also intend to stop smoking as from monday and train harder to get rid of the craving for a sigarette and also to help with stupid BP that is so high .
So thank you guys for building this site i am glad i got onto it .
Hi.
I've just quit smoking too and am only a month into getting fit again after many years break. It's really really bloody tough, but you can do it. Just take each craving as it comes and don't think beyond that.
You could try deep breathing when you feel a craving (the increased oxygen flow to the brain helps to decrease the craving and also gives you something else to focus on rather than the need for a cigarette).
This is also a good method to help (you might look a bit crazy doing it) but it does work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVyEr1W_XPs" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
hth!
Best of luck and keep in touch with updates to tell us how you're getting on. This is a great site to get motivation and support and answer questions.

I did the Chantix pill and it worked great this 7th time quitting and truley believe I have it licked now 10 months into it and 9.00 a pack cigs will also help.
