Re: Trying to eat unprocessed in a processed world

Post by fitoverforty »

Had an off week. Wasn't feeling too good by Friday, and I"m sick now with sinus infection. :(
Haven't ran since Thursday.
Hope to get better and get back at it next week! I hate being sick.

I did get a couple of good workouts in last week.
Last one was 3 mile repeats
1st mile: 10:12
2nd mile: 9:20
3rd mile: 9:12

Did elliptical HIIT and weights on Wednesday.
Had some pain in lower back after last weeks weights. I know what I did wrong tho' I tried doing ab crunches on the ab machine, and I felt it pulling in lower back - thought to myself "this is probably not a good idea..." only did 6 reps, but it was enough to make it sore.
I have to be so careful with back - but at least I am back to doing weighted rows, bench presses, military press, squats, lunges. Haven't done any more deadlifts....scared to. :|

I need to get well...I don't have time to be sick.

Just make sure you take care of yourself, sinus infections are no fun!!!! Get better before you push yourself, it's not worth it to take on too much too soon, just get better. Hope you feel better soon :D

Thank you Jocelyn. :D I'm trying to rest, but I'm sick of staying in the bed. energy is slowly returning, but still dealing with sinus headache - head feels like it weighs 100lbs.
And of course we are having beautiful, cool crisp mornings now....and I can't be out in them running! It kills me. Hopefully by Thursday I will give it a go.

Food is not the greatest either (can we say "comfort food"?)

Breakfast: Scrambled eggs with spinach, parm cheese, 3 slices bacon
Lunch: Pb&J, chips, candy bar (dark chocolate)
Snack: banana, grapes
Dinner: Roasted chicken breast stir fried with spinach, mushroom and zucchini

I have got to at least keep eating under control, since I can't work out to balance out the calories. I'm so tired of regaining hard fought weight lost. Makes me feel like giving up sometimes. :( Then I have these desparate thoughts like "I'll just eat next to nothing....surely I will lose weight" but that never works for me, you know why? CAUSE I LIKE TO EAT!!  So I just gotta hang in there, one day at a time. :D

Hope you feel better Lynne. I think your food looks pretty good. i don't think you will gain much from some fruit and a pb and j sandwich and candy bar to be truthful. :) i think you are a little hard on yourself weight wise. I saw the pics you put up recently and the one you put today and you look good!!!! I guess maybe i'm looking at it from a different perspective. Being overweight as i am. I think you eat very healthy for the most part and you are a nice size. you arm looked good in the pic you showed today!!! so no worries lynne. You will be up and at it very shortly and back on the road. :) but i do think you look great!! :)

Maybe your body is telling you to give it some rest for a bit? It's a good time to rest. Drink tons of water and have some Vitamin C. It helps me! You are doing so good so don't be so hard on yourself. It's ok to be sick... don't think too much or else you'll get even more sick thinking about it! Relax and take it easy. Get well soon!

I agree. You shouldn't be to hard on yourself Lynne, because you're a beautiful, strong, maturing Lady and these things happen, but it's about the response to them that's all importent and feeling like you want to say screw it, or just allow your mindset to be rocked and mess things up for a week, serves no purpose on the road the physical improvement.

You're stronger than that and I know whatever you can do to stay on track you will.

You're doing brilliantly, so keep pushing and keep believing. You're 50 years young and you're getting more awesome by the week :).

I'm really, really proud of you for what you've achieved so far and you really do looks so much more terrific than I've ever seen you. You look glowing, vital, young and energised and I'ts great to see you looking so magical right now it really is :).

We all go through these moments of feeling less than our best, but when we rise to the challenge we can overcome as best as possible. You've got that ability in reserve and I know you will use it wisely and well.

GOOD LUCK, keep pushing and keep on believing. We are all here for you and we will not let you fall :).

Thanks guys. I don't know what I'd do without the support of Shapefit peeps. :D I know I am too hard on myself. I realize I am very fortunate to have the health and the body that I have at the age of 50. I am not on any medications, rarely get sick, and generally kick butt 90% of the time. I am such a driven person to constantly challenge myself, push myself, and never settle for less than what I can give best to. I know for a fact that this will never change, unless something happens to me that prevents me from it, I will always be running, workout out, doing triathlons, half marathons, duathlons, master's track and field, and anything else I can find that will let me enter. It's who I am, there is no stopping, no finish line - and I love that about me. 8)

Thank you Bossman, I love the part about "so far" which only means, there is so much more coming for me in the future!

Still recovering from sinus/chest cold and congestion. No workouts since Thursday last week :(

Breakfast: 1/2 apple w/pb
Lunch: subway turkey sandwich w/chips
Dinner: stir fried shrimp w/zucchini and mushrooms, sweet potato OR pb&j (whichever I have the energy to make  )

HOpe to be able to get a run in or a gym workout by Friday. Fingers crossed.

I'm feeling better except for a nagging cough. As long as I don't talk...or breath...I'm fine.
No workouts or running going on 8 days...
I'm. Losing. . Mind. :x

Today is the first day I've felt better and able to speak a few sentences without having a raging coughing fit. :)

Gonna have to dust off running shoes...it's been 11 days....

I added to music playlist the song " You" by Coldplay. It always reminds me of that video " 120 lb. journey" (it plays in the background of the video) - so it really inspires me....
can't wait to run to it. :D

Breakfast: frozen fruit (banana, strawberry, peach, blueberry) unsweet. almond milk, spinach and 1/2 scoop choc. protein powder SMOOTHIE.
Snack: almonds, peanuts
Lunch: roast chicken breast, steak (3 oz. each), small serving oven roasted potatos
Dinner: don't know yet.

Thanks Boss Man and Jocelyn :D

It went really well. :P
Just ran on treadmill.
1st mile: 10:46
2nd mile: 9:52
.5 mile: 4:40

Didn't want to push it too hard, but it was difficult to hold back. I was a little timid at first, not sure how I was gonna feel, but it was like body went on autopilot, easing into pace, mind able to wander listening to music, body saying "don't worry....I got this". Incredible feeling.

Oh..btw..If you don't have this song on your running playlist - GET IT! omgosh...I got chills running to it - I could envision that video, and the transformation he made, when he ran his first marathon, and then ironman..when he hugs his dad at the end.... CHILLs I tell ya!!!

and if you haven't watched yet...or if it's been a while:

glad you are feeling better Lynne! that is a good video. Do you know that guy in the video now has a book coming out and another one on the way. he even goes around giving speeches motivating people. it's become a career! he still struggles with his weight quite a bit but not at the same level. i've read his blog a little bit.
