Wifemomsupahero's Weightloss Journey

Post by wifemomsupahero »

Hi all! I'm really new at this thing. I just found shapefit.com a couple weeks ago and the stories on here have been HUGE motivators! I love that there are sooooooo many stories of people who were in the same boat as me, struggling w/ their weight for most of their life. Its so inspirational to see that these people reached their weight goals! I started at 246.9 ( highest weight EVER!!!!) and decided its time to do something about this!!! goal is to lose at least 100 lbs. Since making that commitment to myself (less than a week ago) I have lost 4 pounds! Only 96 to go! I am super motivated! I have not felt this "committed" since mid twenties!! I have an awesome hubby that is into health & fitness (he does P90X like 5 days a week!!!) and I really want him to be proud of me :sunshine: I also want to be a fit & healthy momma to kids!

strategy for weight loss is first off to make it a LIFESTYLE change, not just a diet!! Diets don't work for me, I know because I have done tons of them and yes I have lost weight in the past on all kinds of diets (Cabbage soup diet, Atkins Diet, Weight Watchers, counting calories, etc.) But once I lost the weight, I went back to old ways and weight crept back up!!!!! I am in no way belittling those that choose to follow any of the above diets, it may be what works for some folks, just not for me!

So far I have been just making better food choices---eating fruits and veggies for snacks, trying to incorporate a source of protein each time I eat, cutting out all the sugar/junk food I ALWAYS eat. I have also been eating much smaller portions, only eating when I am really hungry and stopping when I am satiated (NOT FULL!) I think this is one of the hardest thing I have done as I am an emotional eater! I eat no matter what emotion I am feeling.

For exercise, I have set a goal of starting out walking 2-3 miles daily and eventually work up to running an average of 15 miles per week. I used to run and LOVED it & really saw a difference in body (especially THIGHS!) when I was running several times a week. mom has been doing an exercise program called "Slim in 6" ( a beachbody program, I guess??) and really loves it. She is purchasing this dvd series for me as well and I plan to incorporate it into routine as soon as I receive it. plan is to do it at least 3 days per week. I am open to just about anything, so I may do weights (we have an extensive home gym set up in our lower level that hubby uses and keeps encouraging me to use as well!)

Well, I guess that's it for now. Thanks for all the encouragement on this website!

Hi  ,

I am just going through some of the posts to give advice where I can. Looks like there are allot of very qualified and knowledgeable fitness professionals on this site already, but I am glad to share mine as well. 2 things worth mentioning.
1. Whatever exercise program you undertake, make sure to get (anaerobic) muscle training in your routine, Muscles burn fat.
2. Try to eat 5 times a day at an approximate 3 carbs 2 protein 1 fat ratio.

It sounds like you are off to a great start and you you will do great with your life style change. :thumb:

Many people do try a lot of things that don't work for them, so that's understandable, as many will never find the happy medium straight away.

One thing to be proud of is that you have never given up on yourself. Sure you've had relapses, but you have never forsaken your own well being completely, by making numerous excuses for not doing anything proactive.

The pride is knowing you have this chance to make good and have the power to act on it properly if you want to. We are here to support people like you, because that's a sign of just how great the world can be, when people from differing continents connect like this.

So GOOD LUCK and never forget that you ARE worth it.

I really appreciate all of the support and encouragement!! :thumb:

I find myself waking up in the morning with a strategy already playing out in head. I think about what I am going to do today for exercise, how I'm going to eat and how to avoid temptation! This a.m. I was making kids breakfast, and I really wanted to stuff face w/ the stuff I was making them (toast w/ pb and oranges) as I was making it. But IM NOT HUNGRY YET. That's how I got here in the first place, mindlessly eating when I'm not hungry! So new defenses kicked in and I quickly finished making their breakfast, ran upstairs and through on workout clothes, now I'm going to drink a huge glass of ice water and then going to jump on treadmill for at least a 1.5 mile walk. Then, when I am really hungry I will eat a healthy breakfast (egg, English muffin, fruit). I am proud of myself for this new change in me! I pray it continues!

Thanks all

Welcome to the community. It’s good that you are motivated and working on your fitness goals. You should list down what you eat so we can give you suggestions with tips and tricks we do to help us. Also, maybe have a short term goal for each week or every 2 weeks? It seems like you have a long term goal of 100lbs and you can totally do it! :D

Many of us can sometime get frustrated and want to give up in the middle. Just keep in mind we are here through good and tough times. Just let us know how we can help because this is a great place for support not only physically but mentally and emotionally!

Well I'm not going to criticise here as I'm sure you'll appreciate, but in relation to breakfast, if you're making them breakfast because you think they need food to help them be active and have good attention and cerebral functioning. when they're at school, why not have breakfast yourself, as you're up early after hours of not eating and before having a workout?

People have been known to get dizzy spells training on empty, which makes some sense as you're doing blood sugar lowering activity when blood sugar is already low, so having something to compensate, by trying to balance the blood sugar level out when you train would make sense, as then you should find a yin yang scenario, where the bodies urges to lower blood sugar, are met with the response to raise it, when the affects of something like carbohydrate kick in, so you would probably either get a modest rise in blood sugar or an equilibrium situation I think.

The first thing I experience when I have to get up of a morning is not hunger, just the need to clean and freshen, but after that I still eat, even though I am not feeling any serious pangs, because I know it makes sense.

Mindless eating is when you're having lunch for example, then deciding an hour later to eat a bit of chocolate 1-2 hours before a mid-afternoon snack. Having a good breakfast to help your body start right isn't mindless eating, but going without could hinder your progress and sometimes the mind might possibly confuse the bodies apparent lack of hunger with lack of need, but breakfast is a definite need.

After all you gave your children breakfast, but did they necessarily feel hungry? Did they even say or do anything that made them sound as if they were hungry, before during or afterwards, yet you still gave them a nutritious start to the day and went without yourself.

So don't be afraid sometimes to override something that feels like satiety. I'm not saying if you feel a 300 calorie dinner is normally adequate, eat another 200 calories for example, but in the morning, certainly have something to eat, or your body could just feed off human resources like muscle and that's counterproductive to weight loss :).

Thanks for the insight. Yes, that does make sense! This morning I am eating half a piece of whole wheat toast with peanut butter on it. I will probably eat a fruit with it as well. I am a coffee drinker, so will have a cup (maybe two.....) after I drink a glass of water. I will post through out the day what I am eating for some input.

Yesterday I didn't make it for walk as we had to make an emergency run to the home improvement store (both our dryer and our microwave died!!!) I did, however, jump for about 15-20 min with kids on the trampoline. I'm sure I didn't burn as many calories doing that as I would have walking, but its more than I have done in the past. I find myself being more intentional in what I am doing, both eating and being active.

I appreciate all the advice (& encouragement!!!) I can get :thumb:

Another pound down! I know I have a reeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally long way to go, but I have to celebrate even the little victories. Which are actually, for me, HUGE victories. I am more prone to making the needle on the scale go up, not down.

So, YAY ME!!

Height: 5'5"
Starting Wt: 246.9 lbs
Goal Wt: 135-145 lbs
Current Wt: 241.9

Lunch was a chicken wrap w/ 1 tbs shredded cheese, spicy mustard, cucumbers & lettuce/spinach/kale mix. Two cups of coffee w/ 2 tbs half & half today so far and about 6 glasses of h2O. Snacks have been cut up cucumbers & tomatoes.

Sometimes, I put cucumber and lemon in water. It has that refreshing taste to it. I also put strawberries too for the sweet flovor.. depend what I feel. I do drink a lot more water. I have 32oz bottle and I refill it like 4-5 times a day!
