does it count if I thought about doing them once or twice? But seriously riding that boogie board was pretty close. Supporting body weight on forearms and holding upper body up above the board. But the best thing was the difference in strength from the last time we went (July 4th weekend) On this trip I was able to ride that board over and over again, walking out to the second or third wave break. I did 2 sessions (each one lasting 20 to 30 minutes riding 10 to 12 waves) on Saturday, and 4 sessions of the same on Sunday and 4 again on Monday. I couldn't believe the amount of energy I had! The July 4th weekend I did less than half of that (and thought I was doing good!) and was exhausted! So I am really happy and amazed at the progress I have made in strength alone in just over one month. :D say it with me...planks are our friends
took some pics while there and found something that was lost for a long time.... WAISTLINE!!! I am able to see a definite improvement and a much more defined waist! husband was bragging on me, saying that I was putting alot of those younger gals to shame out there! :D (He knows just what to say  )

Way to go Lynne! Sounds like you got plenty of exercise. Hope you got some good pictures of that new "waist" of yours for posting - I'm still working on some beach pics in Bermuda. Lots of walking here, up and down hills and lots of steps- glutes should be in great shape! Today is weight training - hope the gym isn't full this morning. I've been sleeping in till 7 AM!! It must be those "dreams" of planks keeping me in bed. Ha!!

thanks for the kind words! I added a couple of the beach pics to profile page, as well as a back shot. A work in progress for sure...but I feel progress has been made! Not brave enough for a bikini pic yet....but who knows maybe this time next year! :D
Even tho' I'm in late forties, I feel stronger now than at any other time in life. I like the fact that I am representing a strong, healthy, active body...one that fits who I am and where I'm at today. :D

You guys are awesome! Thanks so much for the encouraging words! :D
It is hard to put into words the "transition" I'm going through. This whole process is helping me more than I realized to accept and embrace the new version of an "older" me.

Embrace the person you are. The person you are becoming is better than you may have ever realised, but you are showing to people, that you are a fine symbol of maturity, and that you can be a rolemodel to other females, perhaps men too, and for the person you are becoming, and the things you have done and continue to do, you can be very proud of yourself.

P.S. you're not becoming older, you're maturing nicely :).

Thank you Bossman!! That is so sweet of you to say. I do hope to be a good rolemodel for others both women and men, young and old. I can't change the fact that I will grow older, but I can change the way I do it!! :D

I was so excited today, I got to go to old gym to workout! :D Of course it cost me $10 at the door since I'm not a member anymore  ...but it was worth it. I felt like a kid in a candy store! I wanted to do everything! But quickly got overwhelmed  Alot had changed, there were alot of new weight machines I had no idea how to operate. I've never really worked with free weights much so I didn't even no where to start. Thought about trying a deadlift, but without someone to show me proper techique, I chickened out. I just stuck to the things I knew. Here is how it went:

Warmed up on the elliptical for 10 minutes at 200 or so rpm at level 12, resistance at 4 (did just over a mile). Had to listen to two girls chatting nonstop on the two machines next to me "working out", but somehow never breaking a sweat or getting out of breath...geez, some things never change!
Went from there to:
3x15 @ 70lbs. bench press
alternating (thanks for teaching me that Bonnie! :D ) with crunches 3x10

2x20 @ 80lbs. weighted ab crunch

2x20 @ 50lbs. Front Lat pull downs
alternating with inclined oblique crunches 2x20

2x20 @ 45lbs. shoulder press? (seated with arms at sides, bent at the elbow & on each side a padded bar...you raise your arms up and out, kind of like a chicken flapping its wings :D and back down)

3x15 @ 30lbs. tri cep press downs

all of these with the exception of the lat pull downs, tricep press downs and regular & inclined crunches were done on Nautilus machines
(I think I just heard Swanso scream NOOOOOOO..anything but Nautilus machines!!!? )

Anyway I saved favorite for next to last:
3x12 Hanging leg raises, twisting from side to side working the obliques.
I had to go into the "mens" weight room to do these...kinda intimidating...I swear I felt two or three chest hairs spring out on me just from all the testostorone in the air!!!!  But I did leg raises and took own sweet time with them too! Hey, I'm gonna get 10 bucks worth, ya know and I ain't letting some massive weight lifting hulk stop me! :P

Finished up with a 10 minute run on the indoor track. Felt really good to be back in the gym, really miss it. Awesome workout...felt 10 feet tall & bullet proof walking out of there! :D
Have a great day guys!!

Waahoo, seems the visit to the gym, boosted ur moral :D..lmfao @ felt a cpl of chest hairs spring out from testosterone levels :) Indoor track huh ? Fancy gym ~ Free weights r the bomb, once u figure out how to use them, plus u NEVER need wait in line for a machine, added bonus.Think Ive been beside them same chicks on the cardio machines, hard not to say " You do know what your doing is a complete waste of your time " dont u ?..But suppose we all have our own goals..Well sounds like u had a marvelous time at ur old stomping grounds, congrats on the good workout :D

Thanks Lesplease, I will check into that. What I want to achieve is a well toned strong body, but not too muscled. I need to find a balance between having a runner's leanness and a weight lifters defined muscles. It seems I build muscle very easily (at least to me) which is great, but I don't want it to overshadow or hinder running goals (marathon - spring of next year).
How do I find a balance for that? I feel like I have to be one or the other...and I don't want that, there must be a happy medium, I just don't know how to attain it.

Good news! Lost another .5" in chest and hips! Yey!!!
Since June 22nd I have lost 2" in chest and 2" in hips and 1" in waist (although it seems like more)
Haven't measured upper arms, BUT shirt I am wearing today is noticeably looser in the shoulder and tricep area :D

any help on the above dilemma would be greatly appreciated! :?
